AP Services, a product and service brand of Curtiss-Wright, offers an extensive list of valve management services. From our warehouse survey program to on-site engineering technical support during an outage, AP Services helps your plant minimize TCO and improve efficiency. AP Services will maintain Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI), create solutions to obsolescence, provide product and application training to plant personnel, and perform turnkey repacks with the goal of creating a comprehensive fluid sealing solution that exceeds customer expectations.

Technical Support

AP Services technical support staff provides its customers on-site materials and applications experts to help manage your outage scope from power down to power up. Each technical representative is a highly qualified, full-time AP Services employee with years of experience. Using our patented web-based SealPRO™ software technicians will provide the optimal sealing solution by identifying and assigning preformed packing sets and gaskets, while calculating torque values and stress levels for any valve, pump or flanged application.

Over the past 30 years AP Services has been helping customers become fully knowledgeable on sealing products and applications, and fully trained on maintenance “best practices”. Our training professionals are regarded as some of the most knowledgeable individuals in the industry with years of experience in fluid sealing technologies. Turn-Key Repacks

AP Services’ highly trained valve technicians have successfully repacked thousands of valves at hundreds of plants in the fossil, nuclear, refining, chemical, and pulp and paper industries. With a zero leak guarantee our experts will pack your valves for you. AP Services technicians will walk down valves in your upcoming outage scope, identify and survey leaking valves, build valve-specific packing datasheets using our proprietary SealPRO™ software, and assign a preformed packing set designed for optimal performance. AP Services can create a BOM for each surveyed valve and link your Catalog ID or Stock Number for easy cross-reference.

Vendor Managed Inventory

When it comes to fluid sealing for the power industry, count on AP Services’ Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) system to minimize waste, cut costs, and ensure that you never come up empty when it matters most. Our experienced professionals will help organize and manage current VMI areas, or fully implement a system designed to fit your needs. We work with each customer to establish ideal product min/max levels, and remain flexible and accommodating during outages or special projects that require a greater demand of product and increased attention.

Warehouse Survey

AP Services is the only manufacturer that provides a complete service to identify and reverse engineer warehouse and OEM supplied items. We have developed specific software and a proven process for identifying gaskets, packing, O-rings and seals. Each sealing product is measured, cataloged, and photographed in strict accordance with our survey manual and QA program, giving end users easy access to an item’s full description, not just what it does or where it goes. The information is loaded to a web-based database for multi-site visibility and also tied to RAPID’s virtual inventory database.

  • Improved Equipment Reliability - OEM-supplied materials may be several generations behind. By identifying cases where a much-improved product or technology exists, we empower you to make improvements on a case-by-case or global level.
  • Inventory Reduction - We identify duplicate items for consolidation, along with opportunities to standardize on materials that perform the same function.
  • Reduce Direct and Indirect Costs - AP Services can help you save thousands of dollars in direct cost compared to the OEM. Indirect cost savings can be achieved by placing items on Blanket POs, resulting in better lead times, and reduced expediting fees, testing and processing.
  • Obsolescence - Eliminate the problem of not having spare parts for obsolete equipment. In many cases, the packing, gasket, O-ring, or seal is the only part needed when equipment is opened for inspections or routine PMs.
  • FME - Spiral-wound gaskets are a major source of FME due to radial buckling of the winding materials. As laid out in the new INPO and EPRI FME guidelines, your plant needs to address this issue. Our survey will identify all at-risk spiral-wound gaskets, and a replacement gasket will be recommended.
  • Damaged and Asbestos Materials - All damaged and asbestos items will be identified and direct replacements recommended.

Reverse Engineering

The Process

  1. After identifying an OEM part as obsolete AP Services can supply a reverse engineered replacement part.
  2. AP Services uses on of its three state-of-the-art mobile scanning units to create an electronic replica of the gasket.
  3. Dimensional, material and other survey information are uploaded into the AP Services web catalog for future reference.
  4. Using the 2D scan, an AP Services’ technician creates a CAD Drawing to be sent to one of AP’s three high-powered Waterjet cutting machines.
  5. The CAD drawing is sent electronically for upload into the Waterjet computer database…
  6. And a dimensionally identical gasket is created.
